Artist in Residence: MATAMBA

Thursday evening, Matamba and his band reached Drammen. Friday morning Matamba was already performing at  Globus Interactive at Union Scene, then moving on to the evening concert at Mela Hus in Oslo. Saturday 23rd Matamba  hit the entire population of Drammen with his fantastic energy during Globus on Strømsø Torg.
Next Saturday, 30th of September, is Matambas main concert on Union Scene.

This coming Monday, the charismatic artist is looking forward to sing and talk to apps. 1000 teenagers from the secondary schools in Drammen.

What is the most important message you have to give to 13-14 year old teenagers?

– The fundamental message for them will be about unity, tolerance and respect.
The youth need to look at eachother as reflections of themselves. If you treat your friends well, your are showing respect to yourself. This is my most important message, but also making sure they learn that absolutely all that I convey is rooted in love.

The last couple of weeks before the festival we have asked people “What is sacred to you?”, and we have received many nice answers. What is sacred to you?

– Sacred to me is the discovery, the recognition, of why we are here. As easy as that.  But in order to achieve such discovery, we must first get rid of all the structures that bind us. We must eliminate what I call the social pollution. Until we stand there naked, being just me, only then we will find peace within ourselves, and be able to accommodate other people in our lives, and, be able to make space for God.

Finally we have to ask, since you have visited Norway already once before, performeing in Bergen and also in Drammen: What was the strongest impression from Norway that you brought back to Bolivia after your last visit?

– The first thing that comes to my mind with that question, is the impression that Norwegians do not easily get scared. Scared of the unknown. They seem to me like an open people, without much prejudice or worries. I’m specifically referring to the immigration going on all over Europe and also in Norway. I had a strong impression that people here do not mind receiving refugees from other countries. They are attentive and interested, but without fear.
