Description
In the tradition of Pope John II we hold a peace concert where participants from many beliefs and philosophies of life contribute their prayers, texts and songs. The Pope gathered religious leaders in Assisi for the first time in 1986 and in 2002. Later, many have taken on the idea.
Our organization DOTL celebrates its 10 years anniversary next year. We wish to contribute to a society where everyone can live together in peace, understanding and respect by strengthening knowledge and contact between the people here. We represent a large cultural width and now have 22 member associations. DOTL has been a significant partner for the Drammen Sacred Music Festival since the start in 2010. Current chairman Ivar Flaten has been a key player in the development of the festival and has a main responsibility for the dialogue events in this year’s festival.
“Together for Peace” is a combination of conversation, fellowship, mini-seminar and concert.
Many of the DOTL members participate in different ways. Fjell church is hosting “Together for Peace”.
Program
At 5 pm we invite you to a meal with different dishes from Syria / Middle East. The dinner is served in the fireplace room at a reasonable price(self-catering), and is made by very good Syrian chefs in our community.
At 6 pm, a mini-seminar will be held for anyone who wants to get input and experience on how dialogue / conversation can help establish contact and find ways to solve tensions and conflicts. Chro Borhan from the Nansen Peace Center will be opening the conversation. Everyone can contribute questions and comments. The seminar will be in the small hall at the fireplace room.
At 7 pm the main event “Together for Peace” begins. Eight associations / living communities participate in reading a text about peace and reconciliation from their tradition. The readings are influenced by specially composed music by Bjørn Helge Gammelsæter. He plays piano / keyboards and together with him Ingrid Tunestveit (song), Andreas Svabø (bass), Johannes Aagaard (guitar) and Gudmund Guren (drums).
After the concert, for a while, coffee / tea and cakes are served in the fireplace where we have the opportunity to talk to each other and meet new friends.
“Together for Peace” was first conducted in the Mariakirken in Bergen and it is rev. Marianne Gammelsæter who supports the idea and the arrangement.
