Description
The sitar player Rohini Shajpal has years of experience as musician in Norway already, and for the first time she in the leader of her own musical project. She had a dream of doing something with Jon Balke, and this dream is now coming true.
Rohinis roots are indian classic music, and the last 5 years she has been studying with the world famous indian flutist and musician Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
Jon Balke has in recent years developed his musical work to meet with other genres, not least in cooperation with international world music performers in the top league and through meetings with new influences of electronic based music. Helge Nordbakken has played with most African immigrant musicians in Norway for several decades. Father Shri Lal and brother Jai Shankar also has vast experience in meetings between Indian and Western music forms. The repertoire is mainly Rohinis own compositions based on Indian raga tradition and developed with her father and teaching master, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
