Description

A melodic and inclusive ceremony – created in appreciation of the diversity of religions. The event was also celebrated during the Drammen Sacred Music Festival in 2018. Band leader Audun Haave Reknes (keyboard), Andrea Louise Horstad (vocal), Kim Andre Vian Bjerkestrand (drums), priest Karoline Faber and dialogue priest Ivar Flaten also attended this year. Ole Jørn Myklebust (trumpet) and singers from the vocal group EnFem are new participants this year.

The lyrics to «Messe under regnbuen” are written by Erik Hillestad and the music by Øyvind Kristiansen. At the ceremony, each of the major world religions is mirrored through prayer of thankfulness. “In a time where contradictions between religions are being cultivated and highlighted, it is an act of love to celebrate this program,” says Hillestad and Kristiansen. The ceremony in Strømsø church on the last day of the festival has peace and reconciliation as the theme throughout.

The Jakob Ceremony has new words and tones, and is based on the structure of a traditional mass. The rainbow stands as a symbol of peace and diversity. Those who have created it claim that they want to emphasize the contribution of other religions to bring to life the image of God in each individual and their contribution to humanity, peace and coexistence in respect of differences.

The music is acoustic, warm, meditative and melodic.

The Jakob Ceremony is conducted in collaboration with Kirkens Bymisjon Drammen, Bykirken Strømsø and Kirkelig Dialogsenter Drammen.
