Description

Shantala is a classical Carnatic trio comprising of flute, vocals, violin, mridangam and vocal percussion – konakkol. The group is led by Shantala Subramyanam from Chennai, India, the heartland of carnatic music, renowned for its emphasis on devotional compositions and improvisation on beautiful ragas within a highly evolved rhythmic vocabulary.

Like many Carnatic musicians, Shantala started playing in early childhood under the tutelage of her
father. Today she is recognized as an important and authentic voice in this demanding tradition. Drammen
Hindu Kultursenter will sell delicious south-Indian food at the concert.
