Description

We present two prize-winning documentary films that portray a side of Islam and the Muslim world that the media isn’t interested in showing. Love is a Verb by Terry Spencer Hesser is an examination of the Gülen Movement – a social movement of Sufi inspired Sunni Muslims lead by leader and beloved teacher Fethullah Gülen, a man that
Time Magazine named as one of the most influential leaders in the world in 2013.

Farrokhzad’s The House is Black is an Iranian documentary that looks at life and suffering in a leper colony and focuses on the human condition and the beauty of creation. It is spliced with quotes from the Old Testament, the Koran and Farrokhzad’s own poetry. The film has been recognised as a landmark in Iranian film history and paved the way for Iranian New Wave cinema.
